A Cinematic Marvel of World-Building
The imagination is the universe of the mind. And much can be said about the investment of imagination into the new highest grossing film of all time: “Avengers: Endgame”, which is the climax of twenty-two linked films now known as the ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’, or MCU. The concept of the ‘shared universe’ in film has been explored before, with directors like Kevin Smith and M. Night Shyamalan connecting their films together. However it only really took off after the MCU exploded with critical and commercial success. Dr. Peter Schembri, Lecturer in Film Screen & New Media at the School of Creative Practice in Queensland University of Technology, examines the cinematic influence of the MCU on other shared universes, like DC, The Conjuring, and MonsterVerse.
