A Conversation With 1978 Mardi Gras Organiser Ken Davis

This year marks 47 years since the very first Mardi Gras protest in 1978. Taking place at a time in which to be openly queer in Australian public life meant losing ones job and possibly prison time, the peaceful protest was met with brutal beatings by police in the streets and in jail cells.
Ken Davis, a key organiser of Mardi Gras 1978, joined Rupert on Tuesday Drive to discuss his experiences at the time, the march’s ongoing importance and the future of global queer liberation.
