A new media? The effects of influencers getting involved in media coverage this election

This federal election has seen political candidates from major parties working with influencers to boost their appeal.
Influencer content and media on short-form video platforms such as TikTok and Instagram is quickly becoming a preferred source for political information for younger Australian voters.
These changes raise concerns whether influencer content is a suitable alternative to more traditional forms of media, and whether Australian advertising laws are keeping up with this changing technology.
George Pople spoke with Dr Susan Grantham of Griffith University and Andrew Hughes of the Australian National University to discuss these changes.
