Accelerated Ageing of Australia’s Prisons

The Australian prison population is ageing at a much faster rate than that of the rest of Australia, with the amount of inmates aged over 65 years increasing by 170% between 2005 and 2015.

When on the inside, prisoners are ageing at an accelerated rate, with prisoners showing signs of ageing 10 to 15 years earlier than the general population.
