More Accessibility for Eating Disorder Treatment

Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK has sparked conversation internationally about the lack of availability in effective treatment of complex mental illness, specifically in the area of eating disorders. This often stigmatised area of mental health is unfortunately subject to life threatening consequences that require effective treatment, something that isn’t appropriately catered to through medicare. With an estimation that 10% of Australians will experience an eating disorder in their lifetime, it begs the question what needs to be done to provide more effective treatment. The Daily was joined by Richard Newton, board member of the Butterfly Foundation for eating disorders on the line.
