Addicted to Dopamine
You don’t need to be a neuroscientist to know that the human brain is a deeply complicated machine, and one chemical at the heart of it is dopamine. Dopamine is the reward system in our brain, the chemical that gives us the experience of pleasure, and we make a range of choices everyday in pursuit of its release. To unpack the issue and discuss what happens when the pursuit of dopamine becomes addictive, producer Angus Macdonald talked to Dr James Kesby, a research fellow at the University of Queensland.
