Amended environment law unjust
Two amendments bills passed the House of Representatives last week seeking to reform the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC).
The amendments that share a striking resemblance with the Abbot government’s previous attempt to enable states and territories to issue EPBC Act approvals on environmental matters of national importance also propose an Assurance Commissioner to ensure decisions follows the standards.
However, both amendments do not comply with Professor Graeme Samuel’s independent review and recommendations of our national environmental law.
Humane Society International is now appealing to the public to make their voices heard again to prevent this bill from passing the senate in August. Click on the link to sign the petition.
Alexia Wellbeloved, HSI’s Senior Campaigner lead of the EPBC Act Campaign joined Tina Quinn on The Daily to talk about the amendments.
