An Accessible Sydney Nightlife with Gig Buddies
When’s the last time you went out with your mates? To watch a movie or see a live band?
A not-for-profit organisation noticed that there was a barrier for people with a learning disability to go out, to stay up late and have fun because many support workers need to leave events by 9pm. So, they introduced Sydney’s Gig Buddies an initiative by ACL Disability Services that pairs people with a learning disability with a volunteer with mutual interests to go to events together.
Sydney’s Gig Buddies will be turning 6 this week. So to talk about the program and birthday celebrations we were joined by the CEO of ACL Disability Services & Gig Buddies Sydney Carol Smail.
