Another South Australian council abandons January 26 events
January 26 has become a date of growing contention – with many recognising it is not all sun, surf and kicking back…
A string of South Australian councils have turned their back on official Australia Day celebrations – with some opting to shift the date of citizenship ceremonies – citing reasons from logistics to culture, inclusion and respect for Traditional Owners.
Adelaide Hills Council is the latest in SA to make the move, stating “they will not conduct citizenship ceremonies, confer awards or support events on 26 January from now onwards.”
