Modern Slavery In Australia
The traditional view of slavery is that people are traded like property and controlled against their will. However, slavery still exists today, but not in a conventional way.
Last year the Modern Slavery Act passed that requires entities based, or operating, in Australia, which have an annual consolidated revenue of more than $100 million, to report annually on the risks of modern slavery in their operations and supply chains, and actions to address those risks.
Today Breakfast spoke with Carolyn Liaw, a researcher from Anti-Slavery Australia about how widespread modern slavery remains to be here in Australia. If you would like to learn more about slavery or help visit their website http://www.antislavery.org.au/
