The Administrative Appeals Tribunal, or AAT, drew criticism from Federal Immigration Minister Peter Dutton this week after it overturned some of his decisions on refugee visa applications.
But what is the AAT, how does it work, and why do we need independent judicial checks on these types of government decisions?
