Are Shark SMART Drumlines doing their job?
For the past 3 months, the NSW Government has been trailing the Shark Management Alert in Real Time (SMART) drumlines in Sydney beaches including Manly, Dee Why, Newport and Palm Beach.
But with the trial nearly over and zero target shark species caught on the smart drumlines, the feasibility of the shark technology in decreasing shark attacks is being called into question.
Soofia Tariq talked to Robert Harcourt, Professor at the Macquarie University Marine Research Centre about how these drumlines operate.
