Ghosting. Everybody’s experienced it. You message a friend and get left on read for a week. But this isn’t the only form of digital ghost you may encounter online.

New research from Western Sydney University Academic Lisa Portolan has highlighted a new type of ghost prevalent in online dating: the ghost of an imagined relationship. If you’ve ever looked at an online profile and imagined an entire person from a picture and a bio, you may be in love with a ghost.
