Asian Ghost-ery

Griffin Theatre’s Batch Festival presents Asian Ghost-ery, a haunting yet gleeful tale of culture and race.

Between the tiny aisles, musty smells and the endless supply of Hello Panda, growing up in an Asian grocery store can be a quite a unique experience.

Asian Ghost-ery explores this experience through the story of two rather idiotic friends Shan and Yaya who try to break away from the safety of the store they grew up in and approach modern Australian life.

Sophie spoke with co-creator Shannan Lim about growing up Asian-Australian, figuring out that elusive “post-racial identity” and breaking stereotypes.

Asian Ghost-ery, Batch Festival, Griffin Theatre, April 18-20, $30.
