ASKAP Joins Hunt For Fast Radio Bursts
Fast Radio Bursts are mysterious bursts of radio waves, which since their first discover around a decade ago, only a handful have been discovered. Much debate and theorising around what might be their origin or purpose has risen, whether they might be from extraterrestrials or from another source. The Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder has joined the hunt to find Fast Radio Bursts or FRBs after finding their first FRB only three days into their search. Not much is known about these Fast Radio Bursts and their sources, but hopefully this new program will reveal their origins and what they might mean.
We’re joined by Keith Bannister an Astronomer from the CSIRO, to speak to us further about these frequent radio bursts.
