Sexual Assault Ignored on Nauru

Nauru detention centre has been making headlines for a while now, but nothing as horrific as this has been reported. A child asylum seeker, 10 years of age, was allegedly raped on multiple occasions while detained on Nauru. The young boy is now suing the Federal government over accusations that it has failed in its duty of care. “The mother initially reported the assaults as soon as it happen, however.. it wasn’t until the third incident…that they acted”. The young boy now suffers major mental health problems and requires ongoing medical treatment.
