Australia in the middle – tensions in the South China Sea

Australia has historically had US servicemen and women in the country for various reasons over the decades.. but could we be seeing an increase in firepower stationed in the top end? High level talks between the US & Australian governments could see a number of B1 bombers stationed in the NT.

But how will our biggest trading partner China react? Tensions have been rising with increased military and ‘freedom of navigation’ patrols in the South China Sea. As Australia is pulled in two directions, can it keep everyone happy? Mitch discusses these issues with Malcolm Davis, Senior Analyst of Defense Strategy & Capability at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute.
