Australia’s Afghan refugee intake falls short

Australia’s refugee policies are falling far short of the mark, officials have revealed, with only 3,000 places available and more than 100,000 Afghan nationals seeking humanitarian visas from Australia.

Afghan people are living in a state of fear and uncertainty under Taliban rule, especially religious groups such as the Hazara who are at high risk of persecution and attack from the Taliban.

Advocates are calling for the federal government to take action by providing special humanitarian intake of 20,000 Afghan refugees, especially those in at-risk groups.
