Australia’s Recycling Industry Crisis

In the wake of a recent Fairfax investigation, it has been revealed that significant amounts of recyclable materials are being dumped in landfill. Strangely enough, this isn’t to do with a lack of involvement as Australia recycled about 60 per cent of the total waste we produced in 2014-15 according to the latest national waste report. In response industry leaders have admitted that Australia’s recycling industry is in crisis. Today we spoke about this with Trevor Thornton; a lecturer in Hazardous Materials Management at Deakin University.
