Australia’s tsunami potential

Although we still don’t know much about what lies beneath the surface of our oceans, new technologies are slowly making it easier to accurately survey them. Recent underwater findings of landslide scars off the coast of Australia suggest a potential for future tsunamis on Australian shores. In Australia, more than 85% of us live within 50km of the coast, so the effects of tsunami would be undeniably devastating. Findings such as this highlight the importance of mapping our oceans, an area still so unfamiliar to us.

We chatted to Samantha Clarke, associate lecturer in Education Innovation at the University of Sydney about these recent underwater findings and underwater landslides.
