Balancing muscle stiffness in AFL players

If you have ever been running and felt your hamstring snap, you will be well aware of how painful it can be, and even more aware of the months it can take to recover.

Hamstring injuries are the most common non-contact based injury in team sports, and if you are an elite athlete, being off the field for half a season is the last thing you want.

So, how do you prevent hamstring injuries?


Mark Watsford is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Health at the University of Technology Sydney.

He has been studying hamstring injuries in AFL players, and found it all has to do with muscle stiffness, both being too stiff and not stiff enough.
