Big changes for development applications in Sydney and Wollongong

From March 1st, Independent Hearing and Assessment Panels (IHAPs) will become mandatory for mid-size development applications in Sydney and Wollongong purportedly to guard against corruption and lead to better local planning decisions.

But opponents of the move say that the changes have been made with little regard for the impact on local councils and what it will mean for community consultation on developments.

Cr Linda Scott, who is also the president of the Local Government Association of NSW, spoke to breakfast about the concerns around the IHAPs.
