Bio-Fortification Fighting Malnutrition
One in three low and middle-income countries face extreme malnutrition according to a new report from the World Health Organisation released on Monday.
In most developing countries, rice is a staple in their diet, and whilst it has a high-calorie intake, it doesn’t provide a lot of the important minerals we need for a healthy diet.
Plant Biologist Dr. Alex Johnson from the University of Melbourne is researching a way to increase the amount of iron and zinc found in rice through a process known as bio-fortification.
