Blak Powerhouse returns in celebration of our First Nations People
Blak Powerhouse is a First Nations community-led event, organised in partnership with We Are Warriors (community for the young Mob to connect with Elders and role models) and the Powerhouse Museum in Eora/Ultimo.
After an overwhelmingly positive response to the event last year, with over 3000 attendees Blak Powerhouse will return for the second time, on 26th of January 2024.
Nooky (Corey Webster), a proud Yuin & Thunghutti man and artist- who also co-founded We Are Warrirors, spoke with Monday Daily to share the importance of the event, in creating a positive space to celebrate Blak Power and changing a narrative on a day that resonates deep sorrow and trauma for many of our First Nations Peoples.
This event is a free and family friendly event that is open to everyone in our community. There will be performances from a number of celebrated First Nations artists, including 3%, Becca Hatch and Maanyung, as well as a screening of “Through the Fire” and talks.
Blak Powerhouse will begin at 5pm, 26th of January with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony taking place in the Powerhouse museums’s forecourt.
