Bleached: The reef through an artist’s eyes
In 2016, the Great Barrier Reef was hit by the largest and most far-reaching bleaching event in recorded history, an environmental disaster which continues to ravage coral up and down the east coast.
In the midst of the unfolding crisis, artist Laura Jones was compelled to travel to the remote island of Lizard Island, where she worked as an artist-in-residence alongside research scientists for ten days. Laura joined Nic in the studio to describe her reef adventure and discuss how art can help us to connect with this beautiful and vulnerable ecosystem.
Her exhibition “Bleached” finishes up on June 4 at the Olsen Gallery in Woollahra and this Saturday you can see Laura give an artist’s talk at 1.30pm.
