Blood and Honey: A conversation with Dr. Steve Collins

As you may have heard, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey was released in Australia officially in February 2023, which one would be led to believe was Disney-produced. However, this wasn’t the case, since Winnie the Pooh entered the public domain in January 2022, and British director Rhys Frake-Waterfield reimagined the character in his horror/slasher film about Winnie the Pooh and Piglet terrorizing Christopher Robin and a group of young women at a remote house. Monday Drive’s Ben Curdie had a chat with Dr. Steve Collins, Senior Lecturer at Macquarie University in copyright law and fair use, to discuss the nature of copyright surrounding characters and stories as they enter the public domain.
