Bubblegum Goes Pop with The Particles

The Particles formed at the height of the punk movement in Sydney way back in 1977, and spent their early years hanging out with punk legends like The Saints. But by the time they got around to making their first recordings in 1979, they were something else entirely – pioneers of infectiously melodic, playfully subversive indie pop.

The argument is that they deserve to be held up alongside contemporaries such as Orange Juice or Television Personalities, an argument being put forward by the good folk at Chapter Music who have re-released the music of the Particles as part of a newly available record titled 1980s Bubblegum, released on July 7.

Steven Williams, drummer, manager and chauffeur of the band joined 2SER Breakfast to discuss their history and how this new release will ensure that their music will continue on.
