Understanding the Australian bush in the era of extreme bushfires

Australia is currently experiencing some of the worst bushfires in living memory. It has consumed the energies and attention of most of the country for the last couple of months, and it’s still not over, but the blame games and the ‘what next’ arguments have already begun.

There’s been a lot of talk about hazard reduction and prescribed burns in our forests, and if you think some of the arguments contradict each other, you’d be right.
