Calls for a return of Government funding for the Australian Games Industry

The Australian Interactives Games Fund was a self-sustaining $20m fund designed to boost the local gaming industry and help us complete on the international stage.

It was unceremoniously dumped due to “budget cuts” a few years back, but the recent recommendations from the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Communications and the Arts included a call for the fund to be reinstated.

We spoke with the CEO of Interactive Games & Entertainment Association, Ron Curry, to find out what this could mean for the industry in terms of growth and employment and why gaming still gets lumped in with film and TV rather than the Government’s innovation initiatives.
