What Can Australia Do to Stop the Chinese Organ Trade?
The Chinese Organ Trade is one of the biggest destinations for transplant tourism in the world. The overall numbers are unclear but, hundreds of Australians travel to China each year for organ transplants. A News Corp investigation has found the unregulated trade is seeing prisoners shot on demand to supply human organs and poor people forced by debt collectors to sell their kidneys for as little as $1000. With an unregulated industry such as this, human rights abuses are widespread, with many chinese prisoners held until enough of their organs are wanted before being executed.
But what can we do to stop it?
Wendy Rogers, a Professor In Clinical Ethics at Macquarie University joined us on the show to discuss what Australians can do to stop the trade.
