Cane toad invasion in New South Wales

Despite cane toads existing in Queensland since 1935 and are today recognized as a pest species due to its impact on our native flora and fauna, New South Wales (NSW) remained free from the cane invasion until recent sightings began to appear more frequently.

Alerting the public of the toad, the government urges residents in NSW to take a photo, record your location and report the detection to Department of Primary Industries biosecurity.

Professor in Biological Sciences from Macquarie University, Rick Shine, joined the daily to discuss the impact a pest species have on a ecological system.
