Cannabis legalised in the ACT

The Australian Capital Territory has come up with a new legislation which allows anyone over the age of 18 to cultivate and possess small amounts of cannabis for personal use, however selling and supplying cannabis is still a criminal offence. Since 1992, and up until 2013, possession of small quantities of cannabis is allowed, no more than 50 grams. However, the new legislation allows anyone over 18 to plant and grow two plants of cannabis per person and four per household, or 50g of dry cannabis. The safeguards of the legislation include keeping the cannabis secure and away from children, which includes not smoking near them, which is an offence. We had Dr Nicole Lee, Professor at the National Drug Research Institute at Curtin University to tell us some more.
