Care Leavers Australia
In late October, the Federal Government introduced long-awaited legislation to parliament detailing redress criteria for victims and survivors of child sexual abuse. The proposed legislation will cap payments to victims of child sexual abuse at $150,000 and will also allow survivors access to counselling.
Significantly, the legislation will also require institutions at which the abuse occurred provide a direct response to survivors if they request it.
What this proposed legislation means to victims and survivors of child sexual abuse, we had Leonie Sheedy, the chief executive officer of The Care Leavers Australasia Network, was on the show sort to talk about the sort of impact it could have.
