Children’s Asthma Medication Linked to Neuropsychiatric Effects Now Sold With Warnings
A tablet that is prescribed to children with asthma has been linked to cases of suicidal thoughts and depression in children. With a TGA safety review finding an association between neuropsychiatric effects and the popular medication, called Singulair and Montelukast, the drug will now be sold with side effect warnings included in the box. However, the serious side effects of the drug beg the question if a simple warning is enough. To discuss this, The Daily was joined by Professor Adam Jaffe, the Head of Paediatrics at the University of NSW.
