Christmas is supposedly the most wonderful time of the year, but for an ever-growing percentage of the Australian population, Christmas serves as a reminder of crisis and isolation.
The Big Issue is an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting and creating work opportunities for homeless and marginalised Australians. The street magazine provides opportunities for people to earn an income, but even more importantly, to build confidence and their capacity to help themselves.
Deputy editor of the Big Issue magazine, Katherine Smyrk, chatted with Nic this morning about what it means to be homeless in Sydney on Christmas.
