Why do church officials turn a blind eye to abuse?
Beginning today is the third part of the Royal Commission hearing regarding the Catholic Diocese of Ballarat. We’re a week out from Cardinal George Pell giving evidence via video link from Rome.
Dr Kathleen McPhillips is a sociology professor from the University of Newcastle. She’s attended parts of the Royal Commission, and she’s analysing the institutional secrecy surrounding abuse within the Catholic church.
She joined Sam to discuss this morning. Sam began by asking who was giving evidence.
