More Civil Societies with Eva Cox: Political Distrust
Is political distrust at an all-time high? The continuing citizenship fiasco in parliament as well as the marriage equality debate has clearly driven a wedge between our politicians and the public.
A large number of voters are looking at our politicians and wondering what they are doing there if they are not fixing our issues. Has this created a deeply distrustful political sphere?
Eva Cox thinks so – on this week’s More Civil Societies, she talks about the “ludicrous battle” between political parties and how that’s interfering with our representative democracy.
“It makes people think that politicians have nothing better to do apart from beat each other up rather than trying to run the country,” she says.
