Cleopatra: Another Genre of History?

The new Netflix docu-series Queen Cleopatra, released last week has caused quite a stir online, mainly due to the casting of Cleopatra herself. The choice of casting Adele James, a British actress of Black and Mixed Race ancestry has caused people to speak up about the historical accuracy seen in media, as it is believed that Cleopatra had a Macedonian-Greek background, which conflicts the narrative the docu-series sets to create. Ultimately this comes down to interpretation, and understanding to what extent does it harm historical representation and accuracy.

Monday Drive producer Aaryan chatted to Professor Malcolm Choat, Head of the Department of History and Archaeology at Macquarie University, to find out more.
