Clive Hamilton: Waking up to the reality of climate change

The Earth is, by most calculations, around 4.5 billion years old. In comparison, humans have been around for about 200,000 years but in that short time, we’ve had a hell of an impact.

Clive Hamilton is the founder of The Australia Institute, a professor of public ethics and most recently the author of Defiant Earth: The fate of humans in the Anthropocene. Clive notes that while climate change has come to be an important issue over the past several decades for humans, to the earth itself it’s happened so fast, that the planet has had no chance to adapt.

Clive will be presenting a talk at The School of Life called On Waking Up, looking at climate change and the radical philosophical shift humanity needs to make in order to truly combat it. Catch it on Monday June 5th at the Dendy Opera Quays.
