The conflict between shopping centers and online shopping
Online shopping is increasingly dominating sales over retail stores, with even major retailers like Payless Shoes, Topshop and David Lawrence entering administration this year alone.Over the past year, sales in physical stores grew by just 3%, compared to online shopping which grew nearly 10%. This significant difference suggests Australians are looking more and more towards online shopping, and this doesn’t look likely to stop. As a result, shopping centres are being forced to change to combat online shopping.
Jason Pallant, a Lecturer of Marketing at Swinburne University of Technology spoke about what this means for the future of brick-and-mortar shopping outlets.
