Conspiracy. It’s a popular word these days, conjuring up images of shadowy government secrets and nefarious plans.

Bigfoot is real, the Nazca Lines are secretly about aliens and Planet Earth being flat are just some of the theories that can consume a person’s life and make critical thinking increasingly difficult. 

In the age of information how do conspiracy theories continue to flourish? Dr. Peter Ellerton, Curriculum Director of the University of Queensland’s Critical Thinking Project and Senior Lecturer in Philosophy, joined 2SER now to explain why conspiracies spread and why critical thinking is essential to expose disinformation.
