Controversial Coins: Invasive species featured on new $2 coin

I’m sure we’re all used to seeing the kangaroos on our one-dollar coins, well now we have a brand new two-dollar coin with its own animal to show off. But this one has caused a bit of controversy amongst environmentalists.

A new $2 coin is beginning to enter circulation featuring the introduced honeybee front and centre, with certain environmentalists accusing the Royal Australian Mint of romanticizing a species that is a key threat to the Australian ecosystem. To have a chat about the harm in this and how we can better represent our Australian fauna. Willy was joined by University of Sydney PHd candidate and researcher Caitlyn Forster to discuss this.
