Coral Bleaching: Where do our nation’s priorities lie, tourism or public awareness?
This summer, our beautiful World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef has experienced its worst coral bleaching event yet. As a result, tourism operators of Northern Queensland have denied politicians and media representatives access to the northern third of the Great Barrier Reef where the coral is at it’s weakest.
Public awareness is arguably the most crucial strategy in combatting climate change and it’s impact on the reef, but this is being sidestepped by the tourism operators.
