Cory Bernardi Sparks Copyright Dispute
Senator Cory Bernardi has faced a massive backlash from Australian musicians for featuring their songs on a Spotify playlist, meant to be a response to Triple J moving its Hottest 100 away from Australia Day.
Tim Rogers, the frontman of You Am I, has hinted legal action against him for using the band’s music without his permission, while Spotify has stated that they do not endorse the playlist. This has sparked a debate on how much effect political affiliation could have on entertainment, that on such grounds, politicians could face legal action for doing so.
The Daily spoke to Dr Mark Williams, who is a copyright lawyer and a Lecturer in Laws and Arts Management at RMIT University, to find out more.
