Council Amalgamations – What’s Next?
Late last week, the NSW Supreme Court of Appeals threw out Woollahra Council’s legal challenge to the forced merger with Randwick and Waverly Councils. This was the latest in a long line of legal challenges to the NSW Government’s proposed forced council mergers.
But what are the real benefits to be had from these forced mergers? And given that Woollahra Council has hinted at taking its challenge all the way to the High Court, is it possible any of these mergers can be avoided?
