Cricket Australia increases pay packets for female players. But is it enough?
It is a sad fact that elite women athletes get the crappy end of the cricket bat when it comes to their pay packets. Male elite athletes consistently earn more across most sports while male sports receive 81% of TV news coverage while women’s sport gets a measly 8.7%.
In a statement yesterday, Cricket Australia have announced they will almost double the pool to pay their elite women cricketers, which means a big pay bump and a big win for female sports. The pay increase means our cricketers are now the highest paid athletes in any women’s team sport in Australia. But is it enough?
