Daylight Saving: Sleep Loss and Economic Risk
As clocks jumped forward an hour early Sunday morning, and we tried to remember how to change the time display on our microwaves, you may be surprised to learn that research shows the daylight saving effect can have up to a $31 billion one-day loss on US stock market indexes.
We were joined by Dr. Jayanta Sarkar from Queensland’s University of Technology Business School to discuss how sleep loss can impact economic decision making and assessment of risk; as well as whether Australian research into the economic impact of daylight savings has shown the same shocking findings as those in the US.
