Death in custody of Aboriginal man

Amnesty International is calling for a Coronial Inquest to be held as promptly as possible into the death in police custody of Aboriginal man Mr Morrison, who passed away in Adelaide on September 26th.

Mr Morrison was reportedly involved in an altercation with prison staff on Friday afternoon, during which he sustained critical injuries, and died in hospital the following Monday.

At the time of the commencement of the Royal Commission there were around 100 Aboriginal adults in custody in South Australia. As of June 2016, there were an average of 670 in custody on an average day.

Producer Sarka Pechova spoke to Rodney Dillon, Indigenous Rights Adviser at Amnesty International Australia to find out more about the case.
