Deconstructing Home Alone

Home Alone was recently voted the most popular Christmas film in Australia – The combination of family, robbers, slapstick humour and a bit of action just seems to work. But why exactly was the film so successful? And does the violence in Kevin McCallister’s house of horrors go too far? To deconstruct the film and its success, Thursday Daily producer Stef Posthuma spoke with Dr Daryl Sparkes, Senior lecturer in Media Studies and Production at the University Of Southern Queensland.
