Deepfakes: The Videos Damaging Our Reality

We’ve been warned countless times not to believe everything we see on the internet. But now, it is almost impossible to tell what is fake and what is real. Artificial technology has allowed people to create videos, known as deepfakes, which allow them to manipulate the speech of a particular person. Whilst they have given us fake videos of Obama singing Taylor Swift songs, deepfakes may actually reveal a darker side to this type of digital manipulation. 

The Daily spoke to Mark Andrejevic, Professor in Communications and Media Studies at Monash University, to discuss the risks deepfakes pose.
